(Note: Video-only evaluation)
Large-framed prep righty with easy operation and developing secondary feel. Tall with wide back, looks to be carrying some bad weight but definite ability to add strength throughout. Average athlete, lacks twitch but has loose, controlled movement. Ultra low-effort delivery, accelerates on landing but conviction can waiver on off-speed stuff. Clean, slightly offline arm action into a 3/4 slot.
FB presently sits at 90-94, decent life but shape and release angle will likely limit in-zone effectiveness. Enough arm speed and body projection to see it tick up as he matures, conservatively projecting average value but could exceed this. CB at 77-80 is his best secondary, two-plane action with good depth and enough bite to profile as above average with refinement. Also throws a SL at 83-85, shape varies but can often run together with his curve. Some potential here as at its best can have downer shape with the velocity necessary for it to play, but extreme lack of consistency hinders projection. Infrequently uses his CH at 76-78, can slow arm and look like a slow fastball but kills spin and can flash some wiggle to arm side, enough to optimistically call it average in the future.
Ease of operation and sufficient athleticism lend to average command projection despite limited ability to control the zone at present.
Difficult to see significant upside here given present stuff, but back-end, innings-eating starter outcomes are definitely in play. Fairly stable profile for the prep righty demographic. UCLA commit, would not pay the bonus likely necessary to sign him away from this commitment.
