(Notes based on 7/25 and 7/28 games against AA Frisco. Limited conviction in individual tool grades.)
Body: Mature, compact build with relatively short levers.
Athleticism: Explosive for his size with solid body control.
Bat: Switch-hitter. As a LHH, has above average bat speed that allows him to generate solid raw power. Able to drive balls in the air that match his bat path, but has a steep, low-ball oriented swing that limits his contact up in the zone. Quality pitch recognition, consistently recognizes breaking balls but can struggle to manipulate his hands and path to consistently barrel these (even if he makes weak contact). Selective approach augments his ability at the plate and boosts his OBP. Less impressive look as a RHH based on 1 AB seen, with less bat speed and only hitting .217 from this side on the season.
Defense / Arm / Run: Polished look defensively with solid hands and controlled actions, though nothing truly stands out and can struggle at times when forced to extend his range — plus arm with a quick transfer that should enable him to play a solid SS, with above-average value as a 2B/3B. Plus in-game instincts that enhance his defensive ability. 26/28 on steals this year despite visually not appearing to be an above average runner—this is likely a product of his advanced feel for the game.
Summary: Limited look, but believe he has an opportunity to provide quality ML value as a super-utility piece. Ability to play all over the infield (and likely in OF corners) combined with his solid pop and quality plate discipline should carry him to this role, consistently spelling RHHs across the diamond. His in-game makeup should allow him to exceed the sum of his parts, and has a chance to play everyday on the infield if his contact consistency surpasses its current projection. However, real risk that his hit tool deficiencies are exposed by ML pitchers, which would relegate him to a true bench role or even prevent him from solidifying a big league roster spot.
