Bryce Rainer HS INF 2024

Bryce Rainer HS INF 2024

Video-only evaluation based on various clips posted over the past year. Evaluation as a position-player only.

Body: Large frame with longer levers and significant strength projection to upper-half, appears to have filled out some over past year (particularly on lower 1/2). Not particularly twitchy, but an above average athlete with quality body control and smooth actions.

Bat: Strong hands at the plate, innate coordination to adjust his barrel and flashes this at times in games on breaking balls on the outer-half. That said, path tends to exit the zone fairly quickly and see potential for exposure at top of the zone. Additionally, has a fairly pronounced leg kick with high-hand set and decent amount of pre-pitch hand movement — however, see significant refinement made over the past year. Patient approach with quality pitch recognition that should enhance on-base ability. Betting continued improvement allows him to actualize an average hit tool. Above-average present bat speed that could improve with physical maturation — this combined with his strength projection should give him quality raw power. Swing is geared for some loft which should help him actualize much of this in game provided the hit tool develops. (Lack of statistical data or significant available ABs via video limit conviction in hit tool evaluation.)

Run: Plus run time at 2023 PG National, possible this has diminished some given body development over past year. Likely to continue to slow down as he adds strength, but still could see a 45 or 50 runner at maturity.

Defense/Arm: Loose, fluid actions on the infield with good hands and refined overall look. Sits in the mid-90s on the mound — indicative of plus-plus arm strength with utility enhanced by his ability to throw on the run and from different slots. Solid lateral mobility at present that could play on the middle infield, but this is likely to decrease as he continues to make strength gains to his large frame. Chance the actions allow him to stick up-the-middle despite this, but feel more comfortable projecting him as a potentially plus future 3B.

Summary: Quality combination of floor and upside for a prep prospect. See as above-average regular at 3B with plus to all-star level outcomes in reach depending on how far the bat comes. Well-rounded toolset — easy early-mid first round talent but possible move to a corner, some hesitation to hit tool projection, advanced age-for-class, and lack of plus impact on the bases keep him from being a top-5 level talent. Still, an incredibly appealing prospect worthy of a significant bonus investment.

Hit: 25/50 | Game Power: 30/55 | Run: 55/45 | Glove (3B): 30/60 | Arm: 70/70

Assessed Bonus Value: $4,500,000
