Notes on Other Follows from Miami Miracles Showcase (Part 1)

Notes from Miami Miracles event (April 24th-April 26th). Players of interest, don’t have enough conviction for a full report.

Dave Neely INF 2024/25 – Medium Follow

Athletic Bahamian SS with intriguing blending of tools. On the shorter side with an average build, quality athlete with fluid movements and body control. LHH with a loose, quick swing at the plate with bat speed, limited look in-game but believe spin recognition could improve. Quality hands and actions on the infield with solid arm strength and the ability to throw from different slots. Ran a 7.01 and should be an above average runner at maturity. Well-rounded blend of tools, question the ultimate impact but certainly worth following based on this limited look. Late in signing period could reduce bonus price.

Alex Rodriguez C 2026/27 – Low/Medium Follow

Switch-hitting catcher with advanced overall look. Young with well-proportioned frame and on the taller side, but already fairly strong with very mature look for the age – body not a present concern but will need to maintain. Better hitter from the left-side with solid rotational power and feel to adjust his barrel and square the ball despite steep path. Swing from the RH side is longer and stiffer, appearing grooved with less bat speed and control. Didn’t get a great look at the defense given showcase setting, fair transfer with solid carry and arm strength – size could create blocking issues. Ran a 7.5 and don’t see this improving significantly given physical maturity. Chance to hit with some impact combined with arm strength drive the follow, need to hone in on defensive projection.

Engels Montero INF 2025/26 – Low Follow

RHH with a great body and nascent traits at the plate. Tall with long levers and a wider frame, lean at present with big strength projection. Relatively loose swing with solid bat speed. That said, has steep path with length and pull-orientation, long levers make it difficult for him to consistently square pitches despite swing looseness. Real raw power projection driven by frame. Fringy actions with ok body control on the INF and future average arm strength. See possibility he eventually moves to a corner OF given present look. Ran a 7.5, this should improve as he matures but likely to remain a below average runner. RHH restricted to a corner with long developmental road ahead, but power projection combined with non-zero chance to hit create fair interest.
