Notes from Miami Miracles event (April 24th-April 26th), initial look in large showcase setting limits confidence.
Body: Medium, athletic build with projection to add strength throughout his frame.
Athleticism: Quality athlete with fluid, twitchy movements and good body control.
Bat: Switch-hitter with quality bat speed from both sides of the plate. Longer, stiffer path from the RH side, not confident he’ll develop the bat control necessary to make consistent contact here. As a LHH, path is still steep and pull-oriented, though shows looser hands with better innate ability to adjust his barrel. Aggressive approach and doesn’t track the ball very well at present. Possesses the innate traits to hit (particularly from the left side) with bat speed-driven impact, but long road ahead to make the adjustments necessary to do so.
Defense/Arm/Run: Quality actions with good footwork and lateral mobility on the infield. Limited present arm strength, and arm action creates hesitation he’ll ever develop the velocity necessary to play on the left side of the infield. However, see potential for above average defense at 2B — opportunity to also play CF for increased positional flexibility. Ran a 6.88 with smooth, athletic strides that create chance he develops into a plus runner.
Summary: Significant upside driven by combination of defense, running ability, bat speed, and athleticism. That said, interest is limited by significant long-term questions about his hit tool development. Raw traits to receive a high bonus deal ($1 million+), but would hesitate to pay that given the potential that his hit tool hinders him from ever making a contribution at the major league level. However, with increased confidence in the hit tool or a decreased bonus ask, would have high-end outcome-driven interest.
