Complete notes on brief 1-game look (April 16th, 2024) against below average competition with limited in-game defensive action. 

Body: Lean at present — appears shorter than his 6’ 1” listing with a medium build. Narrower hips but squared shoulders that allow for solid strength projection. 

Athleticism: Loose, fluid mover with advanced feel for his body. 

Bat: Quiet mechanics at the plate with a short stride, simple load, and little unnecessary movement. Quick, compact path with solid bat speed and some steepness to generate lift. Showed consistent all-fields contact in this brief look. Faced below average pitching and wasn’t challenged to adjust his barrel — need to see against higher quality velocity and breaking balls to properly evaluate the hit tool but definite appealing traits. Could see struggles against velocity up based on the swing path but not enough info to make an informed determination here. Size likely to limit ultimate power projection, but strong and quick hands, ability to square the ball in the air, and bat speed create opportunity for impact.

Defense: Advanced, controlled actions on the infield buoyed by his athleticism. Quick hands, but did struggle to pick the ball a couple of times on short hops in warmups — not enough sample to see this as a real issue given rest of visual look. Despite his straight-line speed, slightly concerned with his natural lateral range and fluidity based on warmups — need to see more here. Definitely can stick on the infield, question of whether it’s as an everyday SS or as a quality 3B/2B. Arm/run combo to try in CF for increased versatility. 

Run: Looks to be an impact runner (potentially plus), but didn’t have an opportunity for a run time, so limited confidence here and would like to see more to accurately evaluate. 

Arm: Above average arm strength with a quick transfer and short arm action, should play on the left side of the infield. Successfully varies his release angle as situationally necessary.  

Impossible to accurately assess bonus value given limitations to the look, but clearly has the tools necessary to be considered early in the draft. Quality base of running and defensive ability creates foundation for real upside if he actualizes his tools from the left side of the plate. Would like to hone in on hit tool and ultimate defensive home in future looks.
