(Note: Video-only evaluation)
Advanced prep righty with fringe stuff. Listed at 6’ 3”, already fairly strong though see some remaining projection to upper half. Average athlete. Shorter, deceptive arm action with average arm speed into 3/4 slot, generally has limited effort to delivery though it varies and has a tendency to become too rotational. Extension is just fair and has some stiffness on landing.
FB works at 87-92 T93 with big spin rates but unappealing movement profile from 3/4 slot and vanilla release height. Velo dwindled over the course of his outing and concerned with its ultimate profile given his pedestrian arm speed and limited physical projection. CH is his best secondary, throws it often with advanced feel for his age and can flash quality arm side action. Look of above average or better future offering. Slurvy breaking ball at 76-82, more depth and sweep in lower velo bands, slightly sharper when thrown harder — may be trying to throw at CB and SL but the movement profiles run together.
Good feel for his body creates quality zone control for his age. Projecting to average command but believe there is a real shot he excedes this.
Two-way player and evaluating purely as a pitcher in this report. Command, feel for CH, and raw FB spin rate create some interest on mound, but physical maturity and advanced age for class make it difficult to see how his stuff develops the potency necessary to make an impact at the big league level. Certainly worth following, but would not devote the bonus pool necessary to sign him away from his Oregon commitment given the look on the mound. Possible his bat is worth taking a shot on, but not evaluating that here. Performance and stuff improvement at Oregon could make for more appealing selection out of college.
