(Note: Video-only evaluation)
Sturdy-framed lefty with starter traits and multiple quality breaking balls. Very tall (listed at 6’ 8”) with mature look and limited remaining projection. Average athlete who’s able to control his sturdy frame. Repeatable, low effort delivery, able to create some deception by completely turning his back to opposing hitters. Clean, offline arm action into 3/4 slot.
FB 90-94 with vanilla shape that will be hit hard over the plate. Another guy who could yield value by altering the pitch’s movement profile towards a more sinker shape to take advantage of his high release point. CB 74-77 is his primary secondary at present, big depth and some sweep with slurvy shape, up to 2900 RPM. Effective at present with plus shape in a vacuum, but pops out of his hand and believe it will be easy for more advanced hitters to recognize. SL at 80-81 is harder with more sweep and still quality spin, used much less often at present but believe it has good long term potential. Feel for spin drives belief he’ll be able to find a plus utility breaking ball in a quality development system. Very rarely used CH that I didn’t get a great feel for in this video look. General control at present, should have average ML command that can profile in a rotation role.
Back-end starter look with the sturdy frame to be an innings-eater. View as relatively low variance for a high school pitching prospect. Could be a fairly quick mover if able to refine his breaking stuff. 3rd/4th round type, an LSU commit and don’t see the high-end outcomes necessary to devote the large chunk of bonus pool that would likely be necessary to buy him out of that commitment. First or second round upside out of college if he can continue to polish his arsenal and advance his command.
