Ethan Schiefelbein HS LHP 2024

Ethan Schiefelbein HS LHP 2024

(Note: Video-only evaluation)

Smooth lefty with quality FB shape and advanced zone control. Medium build with projection throughout, quick and clean arm that with added strength should create more velocity in future. Super fluid delivery with easy control of his body. Longer, offline AA into high 3/4 slot.

FB 87-92, elite movement profile with big carry and flat approach angle from relatively low release height. Adds and subtracts from his breaking ball that floats from 72-79, looks like trying to throw a SL and CB but movement profiles are both very inconsistent. SL best in upper velo bands, flashing solid depth and sweep. Difficulty repeating the pitch and often alters arm action and slot to try to get around it. Infrequently throws CH at 81-83, pitch is in early stages but his ability to maintain arm speed with some sink creates belief it can get to average.

Ultra-advanced command for age with ability to move his fastball throughout the zone, combined with body control and delivery projects to above average ML command or better.

Young-for-class, developmental block of clay with foundational traits that are worthy of consideration late in the second round. Ultimate value will be determined by development of secondaries, which have a long path ahead to make an impact. That said, easy to see middle-of-the rotation outcomes here. Upside as potential top pick out of UCLA in 2027 if bonus ask prices him out of signing this year.

FB 35/60 | CH 30/50 | SL 30/50 | CB 25/40 | CMD 30/55

Assessed Bonus Value: $1,400,000
