Braylon Doughty HS RHP 2024

(Note: Video-only look)

Athletic righty with feel for 3 shapes. Fluid movements with the body control to frequently vary his delivery to impact hitters’ timing. Relatively clean, rhythmic delivery with solid extension down the mound. Simple, slightly offline arm action with some deception into 3/4 slot. Good frame with room to add strength throughout.

FB 89-95 T97 with above average spin but dead zone movement profile that will run into barrels. Should tick up as he adds strength but shape will limit effectiveness. Knockout breaking ball at 79-85 and up to 3100 RPM, huge depth with some glove side movement. Tends not to finish the pitch and leave it arm side and up, but it profiles as the carrying piece of his arsenal as he matures. Infrequently used CH that shows some fade with maintained arm speed, enough present feel to project to average in future.

Starter traits with 3 pitches and combination of present zone-control, delivery, and athleticism to project for average or better command in future.

Middle-of-the-rotation upside with the inherent variance of a high school righty. View as a fit in the comp round or top half of the second.

While I’d generally avoid this demographic in the draft, this is the archetype of high school pitcher I’d prefer in a vacuum. Combination of athleticism and hand feel to unlock advanced command and additional quality pitch shapes in the right development system. Very attractive high-end outcomes.
